After a brief illness, Alleyne passed away May 7th, under the tender care of Good Shepherd Hospice House in Auburndale, Florida.
Alleyne was born June 18th, 1918 in Homeland, Florida. She was the last living of her generation. Her mother was from Ohio. The Crums were Florida pioneers having settled in the Ocala area in the early eighteen hundreds. In the mid eighteen hundreds, two brothers moved to central Florida. Her grandfather, James Burnett Crum, settled in Homeland. Her father, Charles Fletcher Crum, remained in Homeland, as did all his seven siblings. Alleyne attended school in Homeland and was graduated from Summerlin Institute in Bartow. Alleyne became a licensed beautician at an early age. She continued her practice until her eightieth birthday.
She was predeceased by her husband Burch MacVay in 1977 and her sister Carmen Crum Jones in 1996. Alleyne is survived by nephews James V. (Jim) Crum of Ocala and Robert W. (Bob) Crum of Brandon and niece Jane McVay Kinney of Mississippi and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 13th 11am at First United Methodist Church in Lake Wales. Private inurnment follows.
