ADELE MARGUERITE MITCHELL RICHARD, 92

Adele Marguerite Mitchell Richard was born in Omaha, Nebraska on April 17, 1915 to Nathaniel and Pauline Bryant Mitchell, the second of eight children.

Sis, as she was lovingly called by her family, attended Highland Elementary School, and received her diploma from South High School. On July 17, 1937 she married Robert James Richard, and this union produced one son, Robert Paul Richard.

In December 1941, Adele moved to Washington, DC to work for the federal government, holding positions with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Census Bureau, and the Department of Health, Education and Welfare prior to her retirement in 1968. In 1975, she and Robert moved to Indian Lake Estates, Florida where they were blessed with new friends and frequent visits from family and friends. Adele volunteered at the Lake Wales Hospital, and was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish as well as the Bridge and Gardening Clubs of Indian Lake Estates. She loved collecting angel figurines and showing off her collection of rosaries from around the world brought by friends and family during their travels. She took special delight in the first item in that collection, a rosary blessed by Blessed John XXIII given by her longtime friend Audrey Colvon Pope. She stayed close to her DC friends through annual summer trips to Fredericksburg, Virginia, and relished her trips to Europe, the Caribbean, and Mexico with her husband Robert, who proceeded her in death in January 2005, after a marriage of nearly 70 years.

Adele was also proceeded in death by her sister Joyce Burlison, her brother Leonard Mitchell, sister Bette Barksdale, and brother Chauncey Mitchell. She leaves to mourn her loss her son Paul Richard, Washington, DC, sisters Peggy Lee, Omaha, Nebraska, Shirlee Davis, Chicago, Illinois, and Nancy Bowman, Hyattsville, Maryland; niece and goddaughter Cynthia Kelly, Phoenix, Arizona, nephew and godson Cameron Davis, Lake Elsner, California, nephew and godson Claude Bowman, Hyattsville, Maryland; over 30 beloved nieces and nephews, Dozens of Cousins, and a host of friends scattered throughout the country and across the world.
