Ada Vick Carter , 102

Ada Vick Carter of Lake Wales passed away Sunday , December 19 , 2021 .

She was born October 2 8 , 1919 in Athens, Alabama to the late S idney and Mattie Vick.  Ada moved to Polk County, FL at the age of two months .  She spent her younger days attending school in Brewster, FL a phosphate mining town which no longer exists.  She went to h igh s chool in Lakeland, FL.  She also resided in Bartow and Winter Haven.  During the Great Depression, she went to school at Camp Roosevelt in Ocala, FL and took many homemaking classes. After returning to Polk County, s he met her husband, Raymond, on a blind date and fell in love.  As an adult , she loved to travel with her family and cam ped several summers in the Smok y Mountains. As a Floridian, she loved to fish and would fry up the catch right on the beachfront as the houses were sparse. She visited many national parks with her family such as, Zion, the Grand Canyon and Acadia.  She enjoyed her visit to Alaska and her trip with her son to the Holy Lands.  Although, Lake Wales has always been home since 1950 .

She was very active in church and played the piano for Bethel Baptist Church.  She gave piano lessons to many Lake Wales children and held enthusiastic recitals.  Music was a large part of Ada’s life and she continued to play the piano into her 90’s. S he became a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Wales. She actively participated in church groups such as the First Baptist Prime-timers and Trinity Baptist Keenagers.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Carter in 1981 and her son, Raymond W. Carter, Jr. in 2013.  She is survived by her daughter - in- law, Carrie Carter of (Lake Wales), Opp, AL and grandchildren, Cindy Carter of (Lake Wales), Fort Myers, and Brian Carter of (Lake Wales), Opp , Alabama and great granddaughter, Jasmine Wilson of Lake Wales .

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. , Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Interment will follow at Lakeside Memorial Park in Winter Haven .
